Delivery of Norwich Castle Goal Before William De Ormsby and John Le Breton 7 Aug 1308:
Walsham. Walter Peiteryn, Robert Sterre, Walter Purdee of Norwich and William Motun of Postwick were taken at the suit of Richard Coppyng for the burglary of a house in Raveningham and for taking cloth, cheese, wool and two barrels worth 20s. They come and William Motun refuses to put himself on the country. He is returned to gaol ad dietam. He has no chattels. Walter Peiteryn, Robert and Walter Purdee say that they are clerks. Thomas, dean of Norwich, comes with letters from the bishop. The jurors from London did not come so the free tenants are in mercy. The sheriff ordered to have a jury here for the next delivery. Walter Purdee is returned to gaol. Walter Peiteryn and Robert did not appear in clerical habit nor did any ordinary claim them. They are returned to prison until their title to clerical status can be learned and their ordinary proved.

Walsham. Walter Peiteryn, Robert Sterre, Walter Purdee of Norwich were taken at the suit of Robert Copping who appealed them of the burglary of a certain home at Raveningham and of taking cloth, cheese, wool and two costrel worth 3s 6d. They come and Walter Peytenyn and Walter Purde say they are clerks. Thomas, dean of Norwich, comes. And Robert Sterre puts himself on the country. The jurors say that Walter Peytenyn and Walter Purde are guilty and Walter Purde is turned over to the bishop. Walter Peytenyn did not appear in clerical habit, however, nor did his ordinary prove him to be a clerk. Therefore he is reurned to gaol. Richard Copping regained his chattels. The jorors say that Robert Sterre is innocent and is therefore acquitted. But since he withdrew himself before the trial, his chattels are confiscated. Inquiries are to be made at London the Wednesday next after the feast of St Mary. The aforesaid Richard Copping is committed for gaol for his false appeal against Robert.

Walsham. Catherine Wlwyne of Walsham was taken for a certain sheep worth 20d. stolen from Roger son of Nicholas Sterre on Sunday. 9 February 1309. She puts herself on the country and is acquitted.
